Opera Software has recently acquired FastMail.FM which is primarily a web based email service provider. The sum involved in this deal however, remains undisclosed. The existing user accounts of FastMail.FM will continue to run as usual for the moment under the same ‘terms of service’ and ‘privacy policy’.

This acquisition can prove to be a remarkable one as it combines the expertise of Opera in browser technologies, especially in mobile devices and the expertise of FastMail.FM in email which will provide the messaging on any device. Through this acquisition, Opera Software will enhance its messaging products and provide users with much powerful email experience with respect to the existing Opera mail service. Also, FastMail will enjoy a huge Opera’s customer base and expand their reach to mobile devices beyond traditional desktop usage.
Although FastMail.FM is amongst one of the more reliable free email service providers, it lacks the essence of modern era. Its lack of users primarily results from the absence of many astounding features that modern email service providers like Gmail, Yahoo Mail have introduced long ago.
It is quite difficult to trace out what Opera software is planning to do with FastMail.FM. However, Opera has hinted in its press release that it will be extending upon FastMail to deliver cross platform messaging on wide range of devices.
