Twitter Clients To Choose From

Twitter

Twitter

Twitter, launched as a microblogging service has extended from being just that. Today, twitter is  a knowledge base, a news source – the most updated, a search source, a networking base, a sharing platform, a SEO revenue generator and much more, in as many different ways as you use it. But, to exploit the full use of all the features of twitter, you need a desktop client which makes optimal use of the twitter API. Most of us make do with browser plugins and the site itself, but there are better alternatives which can enhance your twitter experience. You will need to have adobe air installed on your system for all of these to work.

  1. TweetDeck

    TweetDeck

    TweetDeck

TweetDeck is always the first choice for twitter users. It is the most popular twitter client and is based on adobe air. Some features of TweetDeck are :

    • Facebook integration, so your tweets go to your facebook wall as well.
    • Column views for direct message, replies, mentions, recommendations, twitterscoop, friends updates etc..
    • Filtering column contents.
    • Viewing popular content in a column.
    • Using multiple accounts.
    • Sending direct messages, sending @replies, retweeting and add to favourite.

  2. Twhirl

    Twhirl

Twhirl is another popular twiter client you can consider as an alternative to TweetDeck. One thing I like about it is the interface animations. Some features of Twhirl are :

    • Easy and soothing message alerts unlike TweetDeck.
    • A single column-uncluttered, only twitter interface to make it a dedicated application.
    • Allows tweeting images.
    • URL shortening.
    • Account management for following/unfollowing people.
    • Sending direct messages, sending @replies, retweeting and add to favourite.

Try it out . Download tweetdeck here. ( 1.56 MB )

  3. Orsiso

    Orsiso

    Orsiso

Orsiso unlike the above two, is a all-in-one pack for managing your online social life right from the desktop. Getting the hang of it is a bit tricky though. The interface is a bit tricky but guessing from all that it has to offer, it is surely a powerful tool. Some features of Orsiso are :

    • Support for a plethora of services ranging from twitter, flickr, friendfeed, linkedin etc…
    • Tabbed windows for separate features of each account.
    • Allows tweeting images.
    • Account management for following/unfollowing people.
    • Sending direct messages, sending @replies, retweeting and add to favourite.

This is only as far as I could list. There is a lot more to it.Try it out . Download Orsiso here. ( 2.55 MB )

  • nice blog... very informative
  • aw! i thought of a follow up post with seesmic!! thanks for busting me!! lol.
  • Bit surprised to see Seesmic missing form the list. TweekDeck is fast loosing ground. Seesmic is the current powerhouse. Its awesome facebook integration gives it a huge advantage over TweekDeck. Other necc features like spellchecker, userlists and custom tabs are also there. And yeah it also supports multiple accounts.
But one much needed feature it doesn't have is username suggetion. But these features are on its way.

And twirhl is dead. its no longer being developed (they abandoned it in favour of seesmic). But its still nice for basic twitter users.
