Microsoft Open Source
Microsoft has released around 20,000 lines of code for inclusion to Linux for better compatibility with it’s Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V Server 2008 virtualization software. The code will be available to both the Linux core as well as Linux users and includes three device drivers hooks and not the device drivers itself as reported at many places( Microsoft will never write Linux a device driver). It will be released under GNU GPL 2.
Finally Microsoft feels the need to better the performance of Linux on it’s platform, in-spite of claiming that the open source nature of Linux violates 235 Microsoft patents.
The code will be available as a part of the 2.6.30.1 release of the Linux core. Thank you Microsoft for helping yourself.
