Happy BirthdayThis is my 51st post on this blog as well as one complete year of blogging. My number of posts on this blog has finally reached 50 after an year of erratic posting! Over these 12 months, I have learnt quite a few things about blogging, and would like to share it with you all.
- Although tempting, ranks and ranking are big distractions. If you have quality posts, your ranks are sure to rise.
- Traffic has three basic sources :: Referral links, search traffic and direct hits. Without enough content, do not expect much traffic from search engines, expect some with heavy referral and only a few from direct traffic. So, basically you have to have content, a huge load of it.
- Keep a habit of making atleast two post each day to keep consistent ranks and get crawled by google more often. Make it three if you can.
- Spread the word, talk about your blog. If you are a student, it really helps. That way you get people who are interested in what you are doing as well as what you have done so far.
- Focus on a niche, keep your blog concentrated so that it may become an authority on a topic. A mention of the topic should remind people of your blog. Do not try posting on anything which booms. Relevance matters! If your posts do not match your site meta tag, your relevance goes down.
- Comment on your own topics, yes it sounds stupid but gets the discussion fired up sometimes. Never forget to reply on topics and check your visitor stats. If your visitors are from other blogs, keep good contact with them. Reply on their blogs and offer link exchanges.
- If your rank is on the rise, use a rank widget. Visitors prefers sites with rank as well.
