MTS MBlaze has had a strong headstart in a mobile broadband market dominated by Tata Photon+. MTS has taken the utmost care to drive out competition by providing cheap (read subsidized) rates for high speed Internet services. The details of MTS MBlaze Internet plans has been covered by me already and you can find it in this post. I will not delve into the charge details again. However, this time, I am working on a new series. This will be a series of roaming charges.
MTS MBlaze has mentioned on their website that they have no roaming charges on MTS networks. Clearly, there are two parameters at work here. First, there is a constant which says “no roaming charges” which makes me happy. However, there is a variable here too that says all MTS networks. What does that mean? Why is it even worth a mention if this is a service from MTS itself.
Probing the “MTS Network” factor
Well, the variable is what hits your pocket. MTS India has an agreement with Tata Teleservices for sharing each other’s CDMA Mobile networks for EVDO. That is rather worrying. Tata has a wider coverage than MTS and there is a fair possibility that you end up using one of their networks, and not an MTS network. Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that if you are using MTS MBlaze and using one of those shared networks from Tata Teleservices, you are not on an MTS network.
Verdict on MTS MBlaze Roaming
Personally, I have used MTS MBlaze only in West Bengal and Sikkim and am unaware of the exact details of the charges, but I thought it was important to give some heads up to all me readers. Maybe someone with roaming experiences can come to our rescue here.
