Android homescreens suck. I have tried almost everything that is there in the Android homescreen space and I must say, they all suck. They have little or no usability, they keep reinventing the wheel and some of them even make desperate attempts to look like their better counterparts.
Clearly, I am not satisfied with these fail apps. I have settled for Regina Launcher lately. It is not my ideal pick, though it does the job better than other apps. It takes me away from the horrendous, sluggish, stagnant and boring UI of the likes of ADW launcher (that comes with Cyanogenmod 7) and LauncherPro and at the same time, is not a bolt from the blue like SPB Launcher which is priced at $15. Seriously? $15 for an app? That looks like a poor marketing team.
Rants apart, you can see that demo of Regina Launcher I did and called it Regina display more than once in the process (blame Apple).
Features of Regina Launcher 3D Homescreen App
The best feature of Regina launcher is the low battery usage. I chose it over ADW launcher and I have seen absolutely no change in my battery life. A 3D launcher like this is expected to extract considerable battery juice, Regina Launcher does none.
Apart from that, it does a pretty beautiful and intuitive mix of features and looks. There is support for using Android and Regina widgets side by side. The app drawer is noticeably faster than on ADW launcher or LauncherPro. You can check the video for a detailed explanation.
Given the nearest competitor to this app are ADW LauncherEX and SPB Launcher, I see Regina Launcher beats both of these apps in terms of battery life and usability and it is clearly a winner. Regina Launcher calls itself a pure 3D launcher FTW and has support for Froyo, Gingerbread and Eclair as well.
One downside of Regina Launcher is that it does not support live wallpapers. With all the awesomeness Regina brings, I can bear with this downside.
